Why we started this
The first was family. Every trip home came with a list — a bag of banana chips, a jar of jerk seasoning, Excelsior crackers, a bun before Easter. Not substitutes from the international aisle. The actual brands, in the actual packaging, that taste the way memory says they should.
The second was everyone else: friends who had eaten jerk chicken once and wanted to know what a Jamaican kitchen actually keeps in it. They didn't need a story about a rediscovered farm. They needed someone to hand them the real thing and explain how it's used.
So that's the whole business. We buy the same products Jamaicans buy every week, we curate them into a box, and we write down what they are and how to eat them.
What's in the box
Excelsior has baked in Kingston since 1936. Walkerswood started as a village co-op in St. Ann. We write the actual history, not a fable.
A 1–5 scotch bonnet scale so nobody gets surprised, plus what to expect from texture, sweetness and salt.
Practical, not fussy: "best with fried plantain or hardo bread", "crush it into a bun sandwich", "drink it black".
One word or phrase, what it means, and how it's actually used — so you can hear it and not just read it.
Buy any full-size bag or jar right now and we'll ship it straight to your door. Already subscribed? Add the same items to your next box for free.
